The picture to the left is
A'leah Burrell, age 3 and Andie, age 4, they were both
competing in the Cinderella pageant, Linda Haas was the
Director. Pageantry has many meanings, for some it is an
opportunity to excel, showcase talent and beauty but Andie
and A'leah defined it as resource for developing growth and
self-esteem, promoting and encouraging the best of each
other and uniting life-long friendships.
Almost nine years later,
the pic to the right Andie, age 12 and Aleah, age 12, have
much to be proud of, A'leah was just crowned Miss Hampton
Roads Outstanding Preteen 2009.

| April 26, 2009 - GLOBAL YOUTH SERVICE DAY | ||
|
Andolyn coordinated this event and attempted to reach as many youths as
possible to participate and take a part in Global Youth Service Day.
Several local titleholders and other youths came together in order to
make this a successful event, the event started at 11:30am to 8:00pm.
We raised over $500.00 which included $451.00 by selling raffle tickets
for the beautiful gift basket. The winner of the basket was Ms. Jessica
Bigham, The Shift Manager at Texas Roadhouse. Andolyn and Amy (Miss
Williamsburg's Outstanding Teen 2009) assisted with pulling the winning
ticket. Jessica was very excited. 36 million Americans struggle with hunger, including 13 million children. Every dollar you gave by asking others to donate, helped to provide 7 meals for families struggling with hunger. Hunger is a community issue we can't ignore. It's everywhere we look. It is a reality for many American, even in our own backyards. People in every community face the risk of going hungry. And allowing people in our midst to go hungry, even for a day, is a reflection on us all and is unacceptable. Thank you all for taking a stand by volunteering and Making a Difference! You may visit www.feedingamerica.org to learn more. Canned goods were also donated. pic 1: Andolyn presenting Mrs. Doris "Cookie" Palaciao, Director of Human Services, with the check pic 2: Volunteers covering the 1st shift pic 3: Volunteers covering the 2nd shift pic 4: Andie stopped by to say thanks to some big supporters from Chesapeake, Dr. Baily and her family. pic 5: Volunteers covering the 3rd shift pic 6: Volunteers covering the 4th shift Pic 7: Volunteers to cover the 5th shift and final pic 8: And the winner is...? pic 9: Andie presents Jessica Bigham with the gift basket |
