Chinah's Great Uncle, Harold Hall, was one of the first Veterans to arrive to the event.  He enjoyed talking to Chinah and told her how proud he was of her.

Virginia State Dairymen's Association and Cattlemen's Convention (Roanoke)
 

Each year Miss Virginia is given the honor of the "Milk Toast" at the beginning of the luncheon.  Chinah gave her toast in the form of a comedic poem.
Chinah visited with contestants of the Virginia Dairy Princess Pageant after she attended the pageant that morning.

Chinah was a celebrity server at CARITAS' annual fundraiser for the homeless in Richmond.  She is pictured with her fellow servers, artist Judy Newcomb, and Richmond Fire Chief, Robert Creecy.  The event raised about $37,000!!

Chinah attended Martinsville's Fast Track trade show with Miss Greater Franklin County Alyce Haynes, Howard Huff (center) and Chinah's sponsors for the event "Bear and Wolf" from www.oldiesatthelake.com.  Always making the most of her time, Chinah got her H1N1 vaccine from the Health Department's booth at the trade show!  If Miss Virginia can do it, you can too!

Chinah is interviewed by "Bear and Wolf" on internet radio station www.oldiesatthelake.com and she got to try her hand at radio by being a guest DJ!

Chinah spoke to Woodville Elementary in Richmond about how to prevent and stop bullying and making good choices.

Children's Miracle Network Radiothon (Fredericksburg)
 
At the Children's Miracle Network Radiothon, Chinah met Caroline, whose family was there to share their personal story on the radio and Joey Lora, who, because of Children's Miracle Network, has survived several brain surgeries and has lived many years longer than predicted!  She signed autographs for those who donated money to Children's Miracle Network.  She also spoke live on radio station 93.3 WFLS, and recorded segments for the station as well-so tune in you might hear her on any given day!

 

 

 
6 Miss Chesapeake Pageant (Chesapeake)
 
Chinah served as the mistress of ceremonies for the Miss Chesapeake Pageant in Chesapeake wih John DeTriquet.  She signed autographs in the lobby before the pageant, and got to officially meet her Pre-teen Taylor Burrell!  She is pictured with the new Miss Chesapeake, Kristena Wright!

Chinah spoke at William Byrd High School in Vinton, where she shared the stage with presenter Mr. Len Hale, who also spoke to students about making positive life decisions.
 
  
8 Ft. Lewis Elementary School (Salem)

Chinah visited classrooms at Fort Lewis High School in Salem, where she gave the students advice on following their goals and making healthy decisions.  She also answered questions from students about her job and what her life as Miss Virginia is like.

 

10 Southside Virginia Community College (Alberta)
 
Chinah spoke at Southside Community College to college and high school girls about the importance of self esteem and positive choices during their Celebration of Women program.  Upon request from the students, Chinah performs her comedic monologue, "Non-Bridaled Passion" after her speech.  She answered questions from the students about the day to day life of Miss Virginia and signed autographs.

 

15 Mountain View Elementary School (Haymarket)
Chinah spoke to nearly 800 students at Mountain View Elementary in Haymarket about making good choices for their bodies and minds and encouraged them to follow their goals.  She greeted students on their way back to class, giving out hugs and a few autographs.

 

16 Franklin County High School (Rocky Mount)

Chinah returned to her former high school, Franklin County High School in Rocky Mount, and spoke to students about her experience at FCHS and encouraged them to "keep doors open" to their future by staying away from alcohol, drugs, and tobacco.  During her visit she stopped by the cafeteria, where Senior Brooke Williams (a former co-worker of Chinah's) visited with her and introduced her to other seniors.   Chinah was suprised to find out the assembly was a celebration just for her! The band played as she was escorted in, a student sang a song from a musical, and the cheerleaders made a cheer especially for her! (Chinah was a cheerleader her Freshman year at FCHS)

  

16 Patrick County High School (Stuart)

Chinah encourages Patrick County High School (Stuart, VA) juniors and seniors to "stay on the path" to their goals and stay away from alcohol, drugs, and tobacco.  She is pictured with her entourage for the day, the SCA and ROTC cadets.

Holston High School (Damascus)

Chinah spoke to Holston High School in southwestern Virginia about staying "on track" by staying away from alcohol, drugs and tobacco.  After her presentation, Chinah spoke with contestants in the Miss Holston High School pageant, giving them advice about competing, self-esteem, and sharing her own pageant experiences.

 

18 Glade Spring Middle School (Glade Spring)
 
Chinah spoke to all grades at Glade Spring Middle School in southwestern Virginia, encouraging them to make positive choices.  She also performed a monologue and answered questions from students.

 

19 Little Town Players' Opening Night of "Greater Tuna" (Bedford)

Chinah returned home to Little Town Players theatre in Bedford, where in 2006, she played the role of Judy in Perfect Wedding.  She greeted guests of LTP's current show, Greater Tuna.  She is also pictured with former director, Karen Hopkins (also director of Greater Tuna).  Prior to the show, Karen introduced her to the audience and awarded her roses and a keepsake of the theatre.  Chinah also visited with cast members backstage before the show.

  

  

21 Reflections St. Jude's Fashion Show (Harrisonburg)

Chinah was the Mistress of Ceremonies at the Reflections Fashion Show in Harrisonburg to benefit St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.  She also sold raffle tickets for the cause during intermission.  She is pictured with Miss Virginia's Outstanding Teen, Courtney Garrett, and Jordan Davis who modeled in the show. 
 

22 James River High School (Buchanan)

After touring James River High, Chinah spoke to students about staying focused on their goals, and the hazards of drugs and alcohol. She spent the day with students including Maggie and Michael.  She was treated to a VIP lunch with a few students!

Sinai Elementary (Halifax)

Chinah visited Sinai Elementary to celebrate reading by reading Dr. Seuss's "Oh The Places You Will Go".   After reading, Chinah was interviewed on the famous "Miss Virginia Couch".  She visited with students during lunch, where she met another girl named Chyna! (There happened to be 3 "China's at this school!)

Chinah challenged sixth grade students of Fairfax Villa Elementary School in Fairfax to make positive choices while following their goals.

Chinah spoke to sixth graders at Willow Springs Elementary School in Fairfax about the importance of staying away from alcohol, drugs, and tobacco.

Achievable Dream Academy (Newport News)

Chinah met the troops of Achievable Dreams Academy in Newport News, where they greet students each morning as they come into school.  Chinah spoke to the students about perseverance and staying focused on their goals, while staying away from drugs, tobacco, and alcohol.  She also met with girl's group, the "Precious Pearls" of which Chinah was made honorary member.

Chinah visited Riverside Elementary in Newport News, to speak with students about making positive choices.

Ms. Wheelchair Virginia (Fisherville)

Chinah attended the Ms. Wheelchair Virginia Pageant weekend in Fishersville, an organization which she has volunteered with annually for four years.  Prior to contestant interviews, Chinah spoke with contestants about her experience competing and why she chose "Serving Virginians with Disabilities" as her personal platform.  Joan Manley, Ms. Wheelchair Virginia 2009, spoke to the contestants as well.  Chinah is pictured with Rose Williams, Ms. Wheelchair Virginia 2008 before the pageant.  She was co-emcee of the pageant, and along with local Miss Virginia titleholders, assisted the contestants onstage during the awards.  See http://www.mswheelchairva.com/ for more pictures and information.

 

 

Our new Ms. Wheelchair Virginia, Niki Swann, will spend her year traveling the state advocating for people with disabilities as well as speaking about her platform, "Breaking down stereotypes to build opportunities." Niki and Chinah attended the Queen's Brunch Sunday, where contestants were pampered with gifts and breakfast.

29 Page County Schools (Luray, Shenandoah, Rileyville)
 
Chinah gave five school presentations in one day in Page County!  She began at Luray Middle School where she spoke to sixth, seventh, and eighth graders about making positive choices and then, she joined a small group of girls for discussion.  Chinah's second school of the day was Luray Elementary, where she spoke to fourth and fifth graders separately about the importance of staying away from drugs, alcohol, and tobacco.

  

    

  School #3 was Shenandoah Elementary where Chinah spoke to fourth and fifth grades.  School #4 was Grove Hill Elementary, where Chinah was no stranger!  She had visited this school in 2009 when she performed in JMU's Children's Theatre Production of The Fisherman and His Wife.  This day, she was performing solo, however.  ;)  Chinah spoke to all grades (Pre-K through 5th) about following their goals and making positive and healthy decisions.  She enjoyed speaking one-on-one to the Pre-K students prior to her presentation.

  

  

 
Chinah took some time to rest before speaking to school #5, Springfield Elementary.  She spoke to all grades, pre-k through fifth, about making positive choices and following goals.  She also answered questions from the students about the job of Miss Virginia.

Dudley Elementary (Wirtz)

Chinah was welcomed back to her former elementary school, Dudley Elementary in Franklin County.  She was welcomed with open arms by secretary Ms. Kathy, and her former principal, Mr. Hollingsworth, who returned for the special event.  She was surprised to find a collage made of pictures from her time at Dudley.  They even had a slideshow presentation of Chinah's elementary school pictures playing to the tune of "Pretty Woman" to show current students Chinah's history at Dudley.  She spoke to students about her time at Dudley, and how positive decisions helped her become Miss Virginia.

Later that day, Chinah spoke to another Franklin County elementary school, Boones Mill Elementary.

Smith Mountain Laker Interview (Moneta)

Chinah spent some time on the lake with The Smith Mountain Laker Magazine crew, as she posed for photos for the May/June Magazine cover!!!    The magazine, out May 1, will also feature full length article on her.

 

9 Miss Commonwealth Pageant
Chinah visited food sponsor Texas Tavern after the Miss Commonwealth Pageant.  She got a "cheesy western", if you are wondering!

Westside Elementary Career Day ( (Roanoke)

Chinah attended Westside Elementary's Career Day at Interactive Achievement in Roanoke.  She spoke to students about the importance of following goals and took pictures with students.  Students showed Chinah their artwork - pieces of a mural that described their career goal.  Chinah met the creater of Healthy Stuff Cakery, Mr. Hubbard, and enjoyed sampling his cakes, which are made with healthy ingredients and are sold in downtown Roanoke.

 

 

14 Guest Meteorologist on Cable 12 (Rocky Mount)
 
Chinah was the "Guest Weather Girl" on Rocky Mount's Cable 12 morning show, "Rise and Shine".  Meteorologist Jamey Singleton showed Chinah the weather for the day and she was interviewed by host Dick Shoemaker.
 

15 Dale Carnegie Course (Salem)
Chinah attended and completed the Dale Carnegie "High Impact Presentations" class!  She is pictured with her instructor Bob Sweet, Dale Carnegie staff, and classmates.  A special thanks to J.J. White and the Dale Carnegie company for sponsoring this valuable class for Chinah.

Chinah was invited to the Girl Power Reunion at Parry McCleur Middle School.  She spoke to the girls about making good decision and being good role models.

4/29~5/1 Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival (Winchester)
 
Chinah was a celebrity guest at the 83rd Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival.  Miss Virginia Board Member, Elaine Aikens, served as this year's President.  She participated in many of the festivities and rode in the Fireman's Parade and Grand Feature Parade.


 

 

 

 

 

At the Apple Blossom Festival, Chinah enjoyed meeting Virginia's first family, Governor Bob McDonnell and his lovely wife, Maureen.  Their daughter, Rachel, was crowned Queen Shenandoah.
  


 

8 Girl Scout Day (Montpelier)
 
Chinah spoke to girl scouts of all ages about breaking stereotypes.  She found a girl scout with the same passion for pink nail polish!

Ms. Wheelchair Virginia Reunion (Roanoke)
 
Chinah enjoyed reuniting with former Ms. Wheelchair Virginia contestants and titleholders.  The Ms. Wheelchair Virginia Program is a part of AmeriCorps, of which Chinah was a member for 2 years.  This day was the kick-off for the National AmeriCorps week.  Chinah interviewed Ms. Wheelchair Virginia Nikki Swan at the event (see www.missva.com for the interview).

 

 

11 B99 Interview (Stanleytown)

Chinah was interviewed on the B99 morning show.

Humanity Helping Sudan (Richmond)

Chinah attended the Humanity Helping Sudan fundraising event, created by Manyang Reath, a "Lost Boy" from Sudan. Manyang escaped from Sudan, to Ethiopia, to America, where he is attending college and organizing this charity to fund his efforts to provide a careers and improved quality of life to other boys in Ethiopia. Chinah encouraged others at the event to support Manyang's cause, while speaking with other "Lost Boys" of war-torn nations.

 

15 Chinah's "Fun" Raiser (Salem)
 
Chinah held a "Fun" Raiser to benefit Children's Miracle Network and the Miss Virginia Scholarship Fund.  Through a Silent Auction and a 50/50 Raffle Drawing, she raised $711.00!  She is picture with Harlen and Vicki Gudger, Executive Director and Miss Virginia Board member.  Family and friends enjoyed the river in between bidding on silent auction items.  Though too young to donate, Chinah's only cousin, Chloe, encouraged Chinah as the day went on.

Pebble Creek Golf Tournament (Daleville)

Chinah attended the Roanoke Valley Apartment Association's Annual Golf Tournament benefitting the Ronald McDonald House.  She traveled the course handing out refreshments and selling raffle tickets to golfers.  Thanks Pebble Creek!

Lake Day (Smith Mountain Lake)

Chinah visited Jane Leizer's Special Ed P.E. Class for a day of fun and fishing at Smith Mountain Lake.

Chinah attended The General Store's Spring Festival where she visited the petting zoo, signed autographs and greeted visitors.  She is pictured with "Unbridled Change", one of the organizations at the festival.
 
 
(Remaining pictures) Chinah was invited to be a part of the Smith Mountain Lake Boating Association Poker Run benefitting the Marine Firefighters of SML.  Chinah is pictured with her parents as the boats take off!  She was excited to see visiting titleholders Alyce and Victoria.  
 

 

24 Agility Paralyzed Veterans Golf Tournament (Alexandria)

Chinah attended the Paralyzed Veteran's Golf Open, sponsored by Agility Defense and Government Services.  Chinah and her golf cart driver, Jack, got lunch while on the course visiting the teams!
 

 

June 2010
2 Cedar Forest Elementary School (Fredericksburg)

Chinah enjoyed her visit to Cedar Forest where she debuted her new song "Sara Lee" and spoke to the entire student body about making positive and healthy decisions.
 
5 United Way Day (Smith Mountain Lake)

Chinah returned to the place of her first job, Bridgewater Plaza.  She visited businesses in the plaza, fed the fish with visitors, and promoted United Way Day.

 

6 CMN Telethon at UVA Children's Hospital (Charlottesville)

Chinah attended the UVA Children's Hospital telethon that raised over 1 Million dollars!!  She appeared on television, asking people to donate and reading pledges, then hit the phones to take pledges!!  UVA Children's is a CMN hospital.

 

9 Glade Hill Elementary School (Glade Hill)

Chinah was the keynote speaker at Glade Hill Elementary's Fifth Grade Graduation in her home county of Franklin.

Henrico High School (Richmond)
 
Chinah was the Keynote Speaker at Henrico High School's mentoring program awards ceremony.  She spoke about the keys to success, her own experience with mentoring, and being involved in the Miss Virginia Organization.

 
Chinah became an honorary mentor for Henrico High School and was pinned with the official "Sophisticated Ladies" pin!
11 Glasgow Riverfest and Carnival (Glasgow)
 
Chinah attended the 2nd annual Glasgow Riverfest and Carnival.  She coached the contestants of the womanless beauty pageant (yes, men!) on how to "walk the walk".

D.I.V.A.S. with Promise (Sparta)

Chinah visited with the mentoring group, D.I.V.A.S with Promise, to celebrate the completion of their year.  She spoke about the importance of mentors and the importance of making good choices that will lead to the completion of goals.
