Honor Flight (Reagan National Airport)

Caitlin is very passionate about her work with Honor Flight, a program that flies World War II veterans from across the nation to visit their World War II memorial in Washington, DC, free of charge.  She loves greeting the veterans as they arrive at Reagan National airport, offering hugs and a heartfelt "thank you." She shares this special moment from her visit which corresponds to the photo below of her holding the little girl:

"One of the most touching moments of the day was watching this little girl run up and hug one of the lady veterans in her wheel chair. It brought tears to my eyes, and I asked the little girl if she wanted to join me greeting. I gave her my flag to wave and she said "Thank you service" to this special hero as he came off the plane. I'm sure it is a moment he will never forget, a thank you from an American of our youngest generation to one of our oldest. It is certainly one I will never forget. Moments like these capture what it means to be American more than any words ever can."

Before Caitlin arrived at Fairfax Villa Elementary, the teachers asked the kindergartners who Miss Virginia is. One kindergartner said "She discovered America!"  Needless to say, the students were very excited to meet our Miss Virginia!  She started out her morning visiting kindergarten classes, talking with students about the importance of teamwork and kindness, and then got to visit a very special group of students with special needs where her message centered around embracing differences in ourselves and others before presenting her school program to the 6th grade.  Thank you Fairfax Villa for a very memorable visit!
